He began his ministry as a pastor of a Deaf Church in California. He then served as an Associate Pastor in North Carolina before coming to Grace. His greatest joy is found in unfolding the truths of the Bible and seeing God work to save and change lives for the glory of God. Pastor Craig grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ as a child. The Lord called him to preach when he was in high school. He earned his B.A. and M.Div. degrees at Bob Jones University. He and his wife Susan have three adult children and seven grandchildren. He attended a Christian college where he received undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy, as well as a graduate degree in Church Music. Involved in music education and church music for over 30 years, Brian was called to be the Music Pastor at Grace Baptist Church in 2015. His desire is to lead the worship service through music that directs people to a true Biblical knowledge of God, so they can love and worship LORD as He reveals Himself in the Scriptures. Brian and Fauna have been married for over thirty years and have nine children: five married, one in Christian college, and three in high school. They have two grandchilden. Fauna homeschooled their children for many years and now is a second grade teacher in a local Christian school. He surrendered to the Holy Spirit’s leading to gospel ministry while in high school and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bob Jones University. Since 2014 Nate has been the Youth Pastor at Grace Baptist Church, where he oversees the children and youth ministries and preaches regularly to the teens and the congregation. Pastor Nate is burdened to help families to grow in the Lord through a proper understanding of God’s Word. He is also passionate about ministering God’s sufficient Word through biblical counseling. Nate and Cheryl have been married for over thirteen years and have four children at home. She began to teach at Birmingham Bible Institute in 1988 and joined the church staff part-time in 1994, assisting in a variety of areas as needed. Shawna manages the bookstore, assumed responsibility for graphic design and the church websites in 2015, and became the bookkeeper in 2016. Shawna earned an A.B. from Oberlin College, both an M.Ed. and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University, and 84 credits at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary. Because AWANA uses the gospel message of salvation by grace through faith alone, emphasizes the atoning blood of Christ at Calvary, and provides a fun and exciting way for children to learn Scripture, it has proved to be an effective tool for Grace Baptist Church and other local churches. The purpose of AWANA is to reach as many boys and girls in the local community as possible with the gospel of Christ, give them the opportunity to accept Christ as their personal Savior, and train them to serve Him through leadership, service, and witnessing. The local church accomplishes this goal by providing Bible-based, Christ-centered weekly club programs and training the club leadership. Of utmost importance to us as we pursue this aim are glorifying God, being committed to His Word, and edifying His people. Grace Baptist Church offers the AWANA program to several groups. Preschoolers during the two years prior to regular kindergarten, usually three- and four-year-olds, join the Cubbies club. Kindergarteners, first-graders, and second-graders belong to the Sparks. If this is your first time with us, feel free to park in the spots marked “Visitor Parking” close to the building. There is additional parking in the city lot across Edgewood Road by the baseball diamonds. As you enter the building from the parking lot there will be greeters waiting to assist you. If you have children, you’ll want to stop by the Welcome Desk to get them checked in. The nursery is close to our auditorium.   ### Children’s Ministries Sunday School begins at 10:00 AM with something special for every age, from birth through high school. For the 11:00 AM Sunday worship service there is a safe, clean, and well-staffed nursery providing childcare for those 2 years of age and younger. For children 3 years old through 6th grade there is a fun, Bible-centered Children’s Church. Children are dismissed from the auditorium right before the preaching time. Children’s Church is staffed with friendly and well-qualified teachers and helpers who will make church exciting and memorable for your child. Young people 7th grade and above sit in the service with their parents. We offer infant and preschool childcare for every service.   ### Services The adult Sunday School hour begins at 10:00 AM. There are several Bible-centered classes taught by seasoned teachers. The Sunday morning worship service starts at 11:00 AM and lasts about one hour. Our church services focus on worshiping God with music and preaching. You can expect a traditional style of music and worship. We incorporate songs both old and new. Our pastor is committed to solid Bible exposition and preaches carefully and passionately.   ### Attire at Grace There is not a dress code at Grace for members or guests. Most members dress in business or business-casual attire. We want you to feel welcome and comfortable during your time at Grace.   ### Getting More Information Please stop by the Welcome Desk in the lobby, where our helpful, friendly members can answer any questions you might have. Pastor Craig Hurley came on as the Assistant Pastor in 2001 and was called to be the Senior Pastor when Dr. Whitfield retired in 2013.   The church began with nineteen charter members who met in a home in Birmingham, Michigan, not too far from its present location at 280 E. Lincoln. In a matter of weeks, the new church family moved its services to a hardware building in downtown Birmingham. Before the year had ended, a deposit had been made to purchase the Lincoln property, and services were moved there in January, 1957. A choir formed, Sunday School classes began, a deaf ministry commenced, and souls were saved. In 1966 a new auditorium was added to the original church building to accommodate the growing church family.   Neighborhood Bible Time, a children’s summer evangelistic meeting, was first held in 1970 with 577 children enrolled, resulting in 236 salvation decisions.   [![NBT](https://gbcministries.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/NBT-449x304.jpg)](https://gbcministries.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/NBT-e1430164199652.jpg)Neighborhood Bible Time: A Summer Outreach to Young People   Birmingham Bible Institute (BBI) was founded in 1973. The Institute provided extensive training for Christian workers and laymen in the Bible, practical Christian living, and Christian service. Area pastors served as faculty members and chapel speakers. BBI has served over 6,000 students since it was established. The Bible Institute discontinued operations following the Fall 2021 semester.   That same year saw a significant expansion of the church library, with several thousand volumes purchased. Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; Ephesians 2:2-3; Romans 5:12 We believe that God created man and woman in His own image as two distinct but equal genders and that He defined separate, interdependent roles for each. We further believe that the rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God and God’s design for that person. Genesis 1:26-27; Matthew 19:4-5 We believe in the Biblical definition of marriage, which is the uniting of one man and one woman in an exclusive and permanent relationship. Sexual intimacy belongs exclusively within the bonds of marriage, and any form of sexual immorality (adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and an offense to God. Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4; Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10   ### The Savior We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross, as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and that our justification is made sure by His literal physical resurrection from the dead. Romans 3:24-25; 1 Peter 2:24; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3-5 We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate.
